Smooth Nails System

Smoother, more even nails you can see and feel.

The Smooth Nails System is for nails with raised ridges and an uneven surface, the kind that show through polish and catch the light. The Exfoliating Nail Serum goes on first. Its 20% urea and lactic acid gently lift away the dull, raised layer where ridges sit, so the surface looks and feels smoother. The Nail Growth Oil follows, conditioning the nail and cuticle and supporting healthier nail growth as it comes through.

The real difference is how it smooths. The usual fix for a rough, ridged surface is to buff it down, which thins the nail plate and can leave it weaker over time. This softens and refines the raised surface without filing anything away, then looks after the new nail growing in behind it.

Why you’ll love it

  • 20% urea and lactic acid gently exfoliate the raised, uneven layer where ridges show
  • Reduces the appearance of ridges and smooths nail texture over four to six weeks
  • Nail Growth Oil conditions the nail and cuticle to support healthier nail growth
  • Smooths without buffing, so you’re not thinning the nail to even it out
  • Two steps, once a day, on bare nails. Works on fingernails and toenails
  • Vegan and non-flammable, so it ships everywhere we do

Use this as your nightly routine. It takes a few minutes before bed, and the results build with consistency.

  • Apply Exfoliating Nail Serum to clean, bare nails.
  • Follow with Nail Growth Oil and massage into nails and cuticles.
  • Leave on overnight.
  • Repeat every night for 4 to 6 weeks, or until nails look smooth and uniform.

For the best results, pause traditional nail polish, remover and hand sanitiser while you use the system, and wear gloves for washing up and cleaning to limit water and chemical exposure.

What to expect

Healthy nails take time. Your fingernails grow around 3.5mm a month, so a full nail takes 4 to 6 months to grow out from root to tip (toenails take 12 to 18 months). Any improvement you see is healthier new nail growing in to replace the damaged nail above it.

  • Week 1 to 2: Nails and cuticles start to feel more hydrated and flexible.
  • Week 2 to 4: Less visible ridges. New growth near the cuticle looks healthier than the older nail above it.
  • Week 4 to 6: With daily use, the difference between new and older nail becomes clearer.
  • Month 2 to 6: Continued improvement as healthy nail grows out and damaged nail is trimmed away.

This is a commitment, not a quick fix. Two weeks will not undo months of damage. If you see no improvement after 4 to 6 weeks of consistent daily use, the cause may be internal rather than surface-level, and we would recommend seeing your GP, dermatologist or podiatrist.

20% Urea

Urea is keratolytic, which means it softens and loosens the dense, compacted keratin the nail plate is built from. At 20% it breaks down the hard, built-up surface layer where discolouration and thickening sit, helping to smooth and refine the nail and prepare it so everything applied afterwards can absorb rather than sit on top.

Our ultimate pairing

For smoother looking and healthier nails.

STEP 1

Exfoliating Nail Serum

A water-based serum with 20% urea and lactic acid. It gently exfoliates the nail surface, lifting away the dull, raised layer that makes ridges show, so the nail looks and feels smoother and more even.

  • Water-based, so it absorbs into the nail plate rather than sitting on top
  • 20% urea and lactic acid exfoliate built-up keratin
  • Reduces the appearance of ridges and refines uneven texture
  • Leaves a smoother surface for step two

STEP 2

Nail Growth Oil

A nourishing oil with jojoba, castor, ceramides and sea buckthorn. Massaged into the nail and cuticle, it conditions and hydrates, and supports healthier nail growth as the new nail comes through.

  • Jojoba and castor condition and hydrate the nail and cuticle
  • Ceramides and sea buckthorn help nourish the nail and the skin around it
  • Supports healthier nail growth across the four to six week routine
  • The last step of the daily routine, massaged in

A DIFFERENT APPROACH

How it works

The nail plate is built from layers of dense, compacted keratin. As the nail ages and dries out, those layers grow less evenly and the surface turns rough and raised. That uneven surface texture is what shows up as ridges, and a dry nail makes them look deeper because the surface is rougher.

The Exfoliating Nail Serum goes on first. Its 20% urea and lactic acid are keratolytic, which means they gently loosen and exfoliate that raised surface layer. Twenty per cent is the level at which urea starts doing real work on a nail rather than a fingertip, which is why the serum is formulated the way it is. Smoothing the surface this way refines the texture and softens how deep the ridges look, without filing any thickness off the nail.

The Nail Growth Oil goes on second. It conditions the nail and cuticle and seals in moisture, so the smoother surface stays hydrated rather than drying out and roughening up again. A well-hydrated nail holds its smoothness and grows in more evenly, so the two steps together improve the surface you have now and support the new nail coming through.

FAQs

The first thing you'll notice is how your nails and cuticles feel. Most people find them more hydrated and flexible within the first week or two, and the surface starts to look smoother from around weeks two to four, with the new growth at the base coming in more even than the older nail above it.

The fuller change takes longer, because a smoother nail has to grow in. Fingernails grow around 3mm a month, so a full one takes four to six months to grow out, and toenails take around twelve. You use both steps daily for four to six weeks, then keep up the daily oil while the smoother nail grows through.

Not straight away, and not by scrubbing them off. The Smooth Nails System works gradually, with the way your nail grows. The serum smooths and exfoliates the surface you have now, while the daily routine supports healthier, more even nail growing in from the base. As that smoother nail grows out over the weeks and months and the older ridged nail is trimmed away, the ridges become steadily less pronounced.

How far it goes depends on what's behind them and how established they are. Where dryness or past damage is the main driver, the improvement can be significant, sometimes to the point where the ridges are hard to notice. Age-related ridges are more structural, so they soften and become much less visible rather than disappearing entirely. If you want a smooth finish on any given day while the nail grows through, the Smoothing Nail Polish and Remover fills the ridges instantly.

It's made for the common vertical ridges, the fine lines that run from the cuticle to the tip. Those are usually age-related and very normal, and they respond well to gentle exfoliation and steady hydration.

If your ridges run across the nail rather than down it, or a single deeper line has appeared, that's a different thing and worth getting checked rather than assuming it's only a surface concern. The same goes if you think a nutrient gap or a health condition might be behind it. The system works on the surface of the nail, so it helps most where the cause is age and everyday dryness.

Most often it's age. Your nails grow from the matrix, the tissue under the cuticle, and as you get older the matrix works a little more slowly and the nail plate holds less moisture. The surface grows less evenly, and that shows up as fine lengthwise lines.

A few things make them look deeper: a dry nail plate, repeated acetone and gel or acrylic cycles that strip moisture, and sometimes low iron, zinc or B vitamins. If you think diet might be part of it, that's a question for your GP rather than something to guess at.

Usually not. Vertical ridges, the ones running down the length of the nail, are a normal part of ageing and nothing to worry about. Horizontal ridges are the ones to watch, because a ridge running across the nail can follow a fever, an illness, a knock to the nail, or a spell of poor circulation or nutrition. If you notice ridges across your nails, a sudden change in texture, or ridges that keep getting worse, see your GP or podiatrist to be sure.

Yes, they're a pair, and each does a different half of the job. The Exfoliating Nail Serum is the active step: its urea and lactic acid gently exfoliate and smooth the raised surface where ridges show. The Nail Growth Oil is the step that keeps it going, conditioning the nail and sealing in moisture so the freshly smoothed surface stays hydrated instead of drying out and roughening up again.

On their own, each does less than half. The serum smooths the surface but leaves the nail more exposed to drying out, and a dry nail shows ridges more. The oil hydrates and conditions but won't refine the texture the way the acids do. Used together, daily, is where the smoother, more even result comes from.

Bare nails. Both steps need to reach the nail itself, so the serum and oil go onto clean, bare nails with nothing else on top.

If four to six weeks without polish isn't realistic, the Smoothing Nail Polish and Remover is made to be worn as a complimentary product, especially if you have a special occasion. It fills the ridges for an instant smooth finish and comes off with a hydrating Remover Serum instead of acetone, so a lot of people alternate: the system on bare nails, and the polish when they want their nails done

The Nail Growth Oil is lightly fragranced and made from botanical oils, so if your skin reacts to fragrance it's worth a little care first. Patch test a small amount on your inner forearm and leave it for 24 hours before you use it on your nails. Keep the oil on the nail and cuticle rather than the skin around them, and if you notice any redness, stinging or itching, stop and wash the area with soap and water.

If you already know fragrance doesn't agree with you, email us and we'll point you to a gentler, fragrance-free oil for your daily hydration.

Gently and occasionally, you can, but we'd keep it light. Buffing files down the surface of the nail, and done often it thins the plate, weakens it, and tends to make ridges look worse over time rather than better. Gentle exfoliation with the serum's urea and lactic acid smooths the surface texture without taking any thickness off the nail, which is why it's the better everyday approach.

Give the nail the best chance by easing off the things that dry it out or wear it down. Go gentle on acetone and traditional removers, hand sanitiser and long soaks, and leave the buffer alone. Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning where you can.

It's also worth a break from gels, acrylics and press-ons while you do this. They tend to make ridges look more pronounced once they come off, and the removal is hard on a nail that's already dry.

Yes. Ridges show up on toenails for the same reasons, and the routine is identical. The only real difference is the wait, since toenails grow more slowly and take around twelve months to grow out fully. Keep the daily habit going and give the smoother nail time to come through.

Stop using it and email us. It's not common, and we'd rather hear from you early so we can help.

Usually it's one of two things. The Nail Growth Oil is fragranced, so skin that's sensitive to fragrance can get a little irritated around the cuticle, which tends to show as redness rather than anything on the nail itself. Or a nail that was already well hydrated can go a touch soft with the extra moisture and bend or peel more easily. Tell us what you're seeing and we'll help you sort it out.

The four to six weeks is the concentrated part. After that, most people move to a lighter routine: a daily nail and cuticle oil to keep the plate hydrated, plus the habits that limit the damage, so gloves for chores and a break from acetone.

The improvement is held in place by that ongoing care rather than fixed for good, so if you stop completely the ridges will gradually look more visible again. Keeping up the daily oil is the simplest way to hold the smoother look, and you can run the full system again whenever you want a reset.

They do two different jobs, and they work well together. The Smooth Nails System is surface care over time: used on bare nails, it exfoliates and hydrates so the texture genuinely improves over the weeks. The Smoothing Nail Polish and Remover is instant and cosmetic: it fills the ridges optically the moment you paint it on, and stays smooth for as long as you wear it.

If you want your nails to look smooth today, reach for the polish. If you want the surface itself to improve over time, use the system. A lot of people do both, with a daily oil either way to keep the nail hydrated.

Most vertical ridges are a normal, cosmetic thing, and a steady routine is the right response. A few situations are worth a professional look, and it's better to know than to wonder.

Book in if your ridges run across the nail rather than down it, if a single deeper line has appeared, or if the texture has changed suddenly or keeps getting worse.

And if you've been consistent for around eight weeks with nothing shifting, it's worth following up: a dermatologist for fingernails, a podiatrist for toenails, or your GP to look at anything else that might be behind it. None of that means the system won't help you. It just means the cause may sit deeper than the surface, and a professional can give you a clear answer.
