Key Ingredients

Tricholoma Matsutake Extract

A natural ingredient rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can help promote healthy nail growth, reduce inflammation, and prevent nail damage. It contains polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and amino acids that work together to strengthen the nail bed, increase blood circulation, and promote overall nail health. Additionally, its natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties can help prevent nail infections and soothe any irritation or inflammation around the nail area.

Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract

Horsetail leaf extract is high in silica which is known to strengthen and reduce brittleness. Rich in essential minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium, it supports nail growth and structural integrity. Horsetail's antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties protect nails from damage and infection, while its moisturising effects improve nail and cuticle health. Additionally, it promotes collagen formation and enhances blood circulation, leading to healthier, faster-growing nails.

Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment

Radish root is an excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants, which can help improve nail health by promoting collagen production and fighting free radical damage. It also aids in strengthening nails and preventing breakage.

Ophiopogon Japonicus Root Extract

Lily extract is rich in amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that can nourish and strengthen nails. It can also help to soothe and hydrate dry or damaged cuticles, promoting healthier growth. In addition, lily extract has anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties, making it useful in preventing and treating nail infections.

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract

Green tea extract is a natural ingredient that is rich in antioxidants and vitamins that can help promote healthy and strong nails. Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties can help protect the nails from infections and fungal growth, while also preventing brittleness and breakage. Additionally, it can help improve the overall appearance and texture of the nails, leaving them looking smooth and shiny.

Lactobacillus/Rice Ferment Filtrate

Lactobacillus Ferment is a type of probiotic. It helps to strengthen nails and prevent infections by promoting healthy microbial balance on the nail bed. Products containing Lactobacillus Ferment, such as nail treatments and moisturisers, can improve the overall appearance and health of nails.

Calcium Pantothenate

Calcium Pantothenate, also known as Vitamin B5, is an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in the growth and maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and nails. Its moisturising properties help to improve the strength and durability of nails, preventing dryness and brittleness and aids in preventing nail infections by strengthening the nails' natural defences against harmful bacteria and fungi.

Glycerin

A popular ingredient in nail care products due to its moisturising properties which helps to hydrate and nourish the nails preventing dryness and cracking, as well as promoting healthy growth.

Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment

Saké Extract is a Japanese rice wine containing kojic acid which is known to have skin brightening and anti-aging properties, making it a good ingredient for nail care. It also has antioxidants that help protect the nails from damage and promote healthy growth. Saké's high amino acid content also helps strengthen and moisturise the nails.

Tocopherol

A powerful antioxidant that can help protect nails from free radicals and environmental damage. It also helps to moisturise and strengthen the nails, promoting healthy growth. Vitamin E can also aid in preventing nail splitting and peeling, promoting a smooth and even nail surface.

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil

A natural ingredient rich in vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that help promote healthy and strong nails. Its moisturising and nourishing properties can help prevent dryness, brittleness, and breakage, while also protecting the nails from environmental stressors. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe and heal the cuticles, promoting healthy nail growth.

FAQs

This can be the result of too little or too much moisture. The former from repeatedly getting the nails wet and then drying them, and the latter from prolonged water exposure during activities like household chores.

Damage, peeling and flaking might also be the result of one-too-many acrylic manicures or ripping your gel mani off.

Weak nails can also be associated with a deficiency in B vitamins, calcium, iron or fatty acids.

Nails are porous and absorb water readily. When nails absorb water, they expand, and when they dry out, they contract. Repeated cycles of expansion and contraction weaken the nail structure over time, leading to brittleness and peeling.

Water alone is not the only culprit. Harsh detergents, cleaning agents and solvents often used in household chores can further strip nails of their natural oils and weaken them.

To maintain strong nails, it's essential to strike a balance between keeping them adequately hydrated and preventing excessive exposure to water and harsh chemicals. Moisturising and protecting your nails can help mitigate the negative effects of water exposure.

Stop using products that could be dehydrating your nails (i.e. nail polish, nail polish remover, hand sanitiser, basically anything solvent/alcohol based) and minimise exposure to water and chemicals (wear gloves while doing the dishes and cleaning).

We’re very sorry to hear you have been going through chemotherapy treatment and our team sends their best wishes to you.

Unfortunately, chemotherapy can have a range of long lasting adverse effects on nail health for several reasons:

Cell Division Inhibition: Chemotherapy drugs target rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells. Unfortunately, the drugs can also affect the rapidly dividing cells in the nail matrix, where new nail cells are formed. This interference with nail cell production can lead to abnormal nail growth and changes in texture.

Nail Matrix Damage: The nail matrix, located under the base of the nail, is particularly vulnerable to chemotherapy-induced damage. Damage to the nail matrix can result in the formation of ridges, pitting and discolouration on the nails.

Dryness and Brittleness: Chemotherapy can disrupt the body's natural oil production, leading to dry and brittle nails. These weakened nails are more susceptible to cracking, splitting and breaking.

It's important to note that not all chemotherapy drugs have the same impact on nail health, and the severity of these effects can vary from person to person. Patients undergoing chemotherapy should discuss potential nail-related side effects with their healthcare team and explore strategies for managing and protecting their nail health during treatment.

It’s unlikely that any topical product will assist with your nails after such a strong drug and your nails may never recover.

Peeling and flaking nails can become more prevalent as we age due to several factors. The ageing process often leads to decreased moisture retention in both skin and nails, resulting in dryness and increased nail brittleness.

Slower nail growth is another characteristic of ageing, causing a delay in the replacement of damaged nail tissue with new, healthy cells.

Reduced blood circulation, medications, health conditions, changes in nail care habits and exposure to environmental factors can all contribute to the increased likelihood of peeling and flaking nails in older age.

While these issues are more common as people age, they can be addressed and managed with proper nail care regardless of age.

While dry nails can benefit from regular moisturising, over hydration can also be an issue. Excessive moisture can lead to soft, weak nails that are more prone to bending and breaking.

Keep a close eye on your nails' response to regular use, adjusting frequency or product if any adverse effects are observed.

While hydrating nail treatments can be a valuable part of nail care, individual needs may vary, so it's advisable to find a routine that suits your specific nail type and preferences.

We have a very high positive review rate for this product, however, some nail issues just can't be fixed with topical products.

If you're finding that Rest & Repair Mask isn't helping, you may have some dietary related issues that may need to be addressed, such as mineral or omega 3 deficiencies.

We’d recommend speaking to your doctor or a naturopath about your concerns.

Rest & Repair is THE BEST

I had very damaged nails after having shellac and not removing properly. I’m 3 weeks in to using rest and repair and my nails have never been so healthy and strong, I’m not seeing much of a result from the oil unfortunately. However, I can’t recommend rest and repair enough! I thought Kester was just a hype but it’s truly amazing.

Repairing damaged nails

Firstly, I have to say I had my fingers crossed that I’d finally found a product that actually did what it claimed.

My nails were in a very sad state after decades of gel. I believed all the “it’s gentle” and “this gel won’t harm your nails” claims… well, it does — and it did!

So I did a bit of research and came across Kester Black.

It’s not cheap, but gosh — it is terrific.

True to their word, within a month my nails have been getting healthier by the day. They’re not long yet, but they are growing and they look and feel healthy again.

I’ve even started using it on my poor, sad toenails. They’ve always been so thin — you only have to look at them and they split or break (not good when you dance!).

Thank you, Kester Black, for creating such a fabulous product.

I’ve even bought a second bottle.

Highly recommended.
