FAQs
No, and we want to be clear about that. This is a cosmetic product. Dr Fill Good fills ridges so the surface looks and feels smooth, but it does not reduce the ridges themselves. The smoothing is cosmetic and lasts as long as you wear the polish.
Most ridges are vertical, running from the base of the nail to the tip. These are usually a normal part of ageing and are harmless. Ridges can also follow nail trauma, or relate to nutritional gaps. Horizontal ridges, which run across the nail, are different and can signal a temporary disruption to nail growth.
Usually not. Vertical ridges are typically just a sign of ageing. Horizontal ridges, known as Beau's lines, are worth paying attention to, as they can follow significant stress, illness or trauma. Deficiencies in nutrients like biotin, iron or zinc can also contribute to ridging. If you notice horizontal ridges, a sudden change in texture, or ridges that seem to be worsening, see your GP or podiatrist.
We would not recommend it. Filing or buffing ridges away thins the nail and weakens it, which can lead to more damage and more ridging over time. A gentler approach works better: fill the ridges cosmetically, keep nails and cuticles hydrated, and protect them from harsh chemicals.
Eat a balanced diet, keep nails and cuticles well hydrated with Self Love Oil, be gentle with filing, and avoid harsh chemicals. If ridges are persistent or getting worse, a GP or podiatrist can give you advice tailored to the underlying cause.
Yes to both. The set works on fingernails and toenails, and Dr Fill Good can be worn on its own as a soft, natural finish or used as a smooth base under colour.
